Cystoscopy is a procedure in which a small endoscope is passed into the urethra and then into the bladder to examine the lower urinary tract.
Indications:
Diagnostic cystoscopy is done when preliminary investigations like ultrasound, X Ray, CT scan are non diagnostic or reveal a problem which needs endoscopic evaluation.
Cystoscopy may also be done to remove tissue samples for biopsy, to place ureteric stents and as an ancillary procedure during definitive surgery of the urinary tract.
